Roswell School Board Defends Public Comments Policy
The Roswell School Board workshop examined public comments and a proposed policy requiring administrative screening before speaking. Trustees debated keeping the section to curb personal attacks while respecting residents’ concerns. The district needs about 115000 more for boiler replacements across seven schools, with 555942 total estimated cost and 115142 budget shortfall. The November regular meeting is rescheduled to Monday at 630 pm, with additional meetings planned including a Spanish forum on November 14 at 630 pm.

Final county planning meeting advances long term Chaves plan
The fourth open house on a 20 year comprehensive plan for Chaves County drew residents to the county complex in Roswell. Grant Pinkerton outlined a long range framework covering water land use housing and transportation with reviews planned about every five years. John Valdez of Consensus Planning noted public input shaping goals and a steering committee helped craft the survey responses from over 1000 residents. A late December or January follow up will refine the plan reflecting input. Residents offered mixed views with calls to include indigent health care and concerns about ambiguity in some proposals. The county secured a Community Development Block Grant to support the land use plan, following prior meetings in Pecosco Hagerman and Roswell.
