In Flemington New Jersey October 29 AP reports a campaign to free Bruno Hauptmann. Detectives seek evidence to contradict testimony placing him near the Lindbergh home in March 1932. Investigators interview mountain residents to influence extradition proceedings that brought the Bronx carpenter to trial in 1935.
Washington reports the American Federation of Labor pressing for federal action to boost production by 30 percent amid a rising unemployment tally. William Green cites 845,000 more jobless in the latest month and urges a nationwide, balanced program to create income for consumer demand.
In California the Epic bid of Upton Sinclair fights to hold lead as the campaign nears its end. A fatal shootin g in Loyalton ties to the political clash while Mer riam’s supporters warn against overconfidence amid desertions. Sinclair demands a federal inquiry into campaign film propaganda as Haight concentrates on southern voters.
Santa Fe reports Democratic state headquarters quoted Everett Grantham of Clovis, former Legion state commander, claiming more than 5,000 ex servicemen are enrolled in Democratic ex servicemen's clubs and a majority will support Democrats this election.
In Sonora California Averill Harris achieves a record run that shatters a 30 year old rail speed mark. The feat excites the nation as railroading gains renewed vigor though questions arise about railroad management. Bankers reconcile with Roosevelt after a celebrated banquet where he performed an act of diplomacy.
Roswell New Mexico October 29 AP W A Nicholas president of the New Mexico Petroleum Association issues a statement praising Bronson Cutting for saving millions for the state oil industry through battles waged under two administrations He condemns critics who say Cutting was not regular in his party affiliations and urges voters to look beyond such criticisms.
Chief Albert T. Clark plans to unite Col orado convict Samuel Robbins and suspect Lloyd Love in Denver to advance the probe into Warner D. Bailey a La Junta Colo businessman's disappearance last May. Robbins claims Bailey was slain by an auto theft ring connected to Colorado and Kansas. Bailey's body is said to have been dumped in a Denver park lake.
The National Industrial Conference Board reported October 29 that September failed to show expected manufacturing gains. Wage-earners declined 5.7 percent, total man-hours fell 6.1 percent, payrolls dropped 5.8 percent, and weekly earnings rose by 2.1 percent amid higher living costs.
J A Cottingham longtime Roswell resident died last Tuesday in San Antonio. Family members were present. He formerly ran Roswell Laundry and led Roswell Lumber Co. Sons Grover and Lon were in business here, Grover at The First National Bank and Son and in ranching, with Caprock headquarters. Daughters Irma and Estelle married long ago. The Cottingham family was highly regarded in Roswell. his passing will be deeply regretted by many friends.
The Democratic senatorial committee sent $1000 to New Mexico for Dennis Chavez against Bronson Cutting and to aid reelect Senator Carl A Hatch. The committee filed a report showing $6500 in contributions and $5446 in expenditures from Sept 19 to Oct 26, with a balance of $6665. Richard C. Dillon, New Mexico Republican opposing Hatch, reported no contributions or expenditures aside from personal items and a $950 legal contribution.
Washington ap reports from senatorial candidates on campaign spending continued today. Senator Cutting R NM reported receipts of 150 dollars all from Robert La Follette and expenditures of 650 dollars to the Republican state committee.
Blustering winter sent snow across eastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey New York New England and Ontario. Temperatures fell to single digits in Maine and 28 in upstate New York. Coastal vessels faced damage with several ships in distress off the Atlantic coast and two men missing near Maine. A series of incidents including a grounded Haven Belle a towed schooner and a damaged turbine accompanied by fishing and coast guard operations.
Roswell schools will close Wednesday at noon and remain shut for the week due to the New Mexico Educational Association convention in Santa Fe. Most teachers will attend. the event runs Wednesday through Saturday. Local officials and students will join the trip. Roswell aims to attract the 1935 convention.

Only one living defendant remains, Dr. A Zander, editor of the Nazi paper Wisernen Besen. A former vice governor of St Peters burg testified the protocols were fabricated by Russian agents in the French national library, forming the Nazi basis in Germany.
London October 29 AP Delegations of the United States Great Britain and Japan reached a crossroads in naval talks. British and American spokesmen called Japan proposals for a new treaty based on equality unacceptable, leaving Japan to choose next. One path preserves the Washington treaty. the other ends it and sparks a naval arms race.
London reports a surprise meeting between American and Japanese delegates during the three power preliminary naval conversations. Neither side had planned to confer, but both Washington and London press for Japan to submit specific tonnage figures as a method to limit naval armaments and replace existing plans.
Caswell S. Neal a Carlsbad attorney aligned with the Republican ticket accepted G. O. Caldwell Mountainair attorney’s challenge to a debate. He fixed the venue Vaughn New Mexico and set the time for next Friday night at 7 30 PM with one hour per side and Caldwell to open or close.
Denver officials estimate several hundred relief workers went on strike to protest relief reductions and to demand the removal of Co. D. Shawver, state federal relief administrator, with actions starting today in Denver.
Police investigated after a partially dressed male laborer, about 38, was found dead along the Reno-Susanville highway two miles north of Reno. He had been struck twice with an axe, losses included $120, a coat, and signs suggesting possible robbery or car theft. The body appeared to have been killed last night or early today.

Everett Grantham, addressing Democrats in Lovington, assailed Sen. Bronson Cutting as a friend of labor. He accused Cutting of owning newspapers in Santa Fe and statewide outlets, notably the Albuquerque Journal and The New Mexican, alleging they lack union contracts and misrepresent union labels. Grantham charged Cutting with loyalty only to his own political movement.
Santa Fe reports that Sen. Bronson Cutting received an unanimous endorsement for U S Senator from national officers and members of the Allied Veterans Association. A letter from W C Palmer, national chairman, praises Cutting as a true American with a record serving the common people and earning trust across parties. It pledges full organization support and urges members to work for Cutting and vote for him.
Eastern New Mexico peace officers report no trace of Virgil Stalcup and Clarence Brown, two Texas outlaws who escaped from Dickens jail after killing a sheriff. A stainiff's car was used to flee, and despite alerts in Curry County and surrounding areas, authorities have not located them or their vehicle. Stalcup had previously escaped a Texas jail and eluded police before.
