Police oust oil pipeline protesters in Cannon Ball raid
Police in riot gear cleared a private land protest camp along the Dakota Access pipeline route in Cannon Ball North Dakota. Hundreds of officers moved in by midday using bean bag rounds and pepper spray and arrested more than a dozen protesters. One man was treated for a leg injury. The camp was cleared by nightfall, with authorities pledging to remain to keep the road open and deter camping on private land. The confrontation marks a major escalation in months of protests near Standing Rock and Lake Oahe. Protester Aaron Johnson, 50, urged peace as flames sparked during the clash.
