Concrete includes Portland cement with calcium oxide and other minerals. In arid New Mexico soils high in calcium exist. excess calcium from concrete can hinder some plants while native calcareous species tolerate it. Remove large concrete pieces and thinly spread fine washings away from planting zones. Obtain soil tests, then amend with sulfur, organic matter, or nutrients per guidance from NMSU Extension and its Soil Testing Lab.
