Afghanistan again world’s top opium producer says UN
The United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention reports Afghanistan led global opium poppy cultivation again this year due to power vacuums from war and the collapse of the Taliban. About 3,400 tons were produced across 24 provinces, concentrated in Badakhshan Nangarhar Uruzgan Hel mand Kandahar, with earnings around 3 000 to 4 000 dollars per farming family. Costa urged international help for eradication and lawful livelihoods.
