Guard pay raise may start soon

Santa Fe AP The Corrections Department outlined a mid November pay raise plan for about 1100 prison guards to improve recruitment and retention. Starting wage would rise to 10.50 per hour with a variable increase based on experience, plus a 0.5 percent per year of service up to 10 years. A $260,000 emergency loan from the state Board of Finance is needed for November through early February, with permanent funding to follow in the January legislative session. The plan aims to address high turnover and overtime, while complying with state personnel rules.
