Bound Over Charge of Manslaughter in Dexter Highway Death
Frank Edwards aged 22 was bound over to district court on a charge of involuntary manslaughter after a preliminary hearing in justice court. Delbert Lee was struck by a truck driven by Edwards on a highway near Dexter Tuesday afternoon. State witnesses described passing Lee and hearing a thud. Edwards testified he did not know he had hit anyone. The fatal incident occurred around 4:30 p m on the highway west of Dexter. Edwards and his father have lived nearby for about five weeks.

Santa Fe October 26 AP Gov A W Hockenhall announced an immediate audit of the highway department to remove political influence and run the agency on a business basis. He said the department must be self supporting with a sinking fund to erase old debts and that debentures would fund only road construction. The deficit may reach up to a million with $408000 shown as of Sept 30 and $50000 since then. Delinquent bills prompted state advances to pay creditors and some firms faced bankruptcy without payments from the department.
