President Nixon pledged to aid nonpublic schools via tax credits and pressed Congress to end court ordered busing. He cited a 70 percent rise in federal education funding from 1969 to 1973 and argued for local decision making over education rather than judges.
The Chaves County United Way Campaign has reached 70 percent of its goal with pledges and payments totaling 121 233.58 dollars. Key gains come from the Medical Division at 67 percent and St. Marys Hospital and Eastern New Mexico Medical Center employee gifts.
Democratic nominee George McGovern charged White House aide H R Haldeman led a secret Nixon campaign sabotage fund tied to the Watergate break in. He said the Post report implicates Nixon, Agnew and five close aides in political espionage and corruption.

About 200 delegates from across the state attend the New Mexico Rehabilitation Assn annual meeting in Roswell. The two-day program centers at the Roswell Inn and includes workshops, speeches by NM Rehabilitation officials, NMRC tours, and an officers election at Eastern New Mexico University Roswell.
Illinois State's Attorney Edward Hanrahan is acquitted of conspiracy to obstruct justice related to the 1969 raid that killed Fred Hampton and Mark Clark. Judge Romiti granted a directed verdict after proceedings lasting more than 14 weeks. Eleven codefendants were freed with Hanrahan.
Senator Bob Ferguson of Artesia, a Democrat incumbent, led a 35 vehicle caravan in a parade this morning in Roswell. The procession started at North Main and College Streets and moved south to Poe Street as part of the Ferguson for Senator campaign.
