Antitrust Suit Against the Railroads

Washington Oct 25 Attorney General Murphy announced authorized filing of a Sherman act antitrust complaint against the Association of American Railroads its officers directors and 236 member railroad companies. It alleges railroads restrained trade by denying motor carriers same cooperation and refused to set rail rates for motor trucks trailers and truck bodies and to establish through joint and billing arrangements to eliminate competition. The complaint would be filed in the District Court for the District of Columbia.

Dempsey Attacks Dies Committee Publicity Of List

Washington report says Rep. Dempsey protested the Dies committee published a Washington league membership and mailing list. He called the action most unAmerican and said it could reveal innocent people including Spanish refugee supporters. He condemned the release as harmful and prejudicial.

Roswell Adult Classes Open Tonight at Three High Schools

Registration and first sessions begin at 7 30 tonight at Roswell Senior and Junior high schools. Courses include public speaking arithmetic men’s physical education typing arts and crafts general mathematics and Spanish if demand allows. A $1 50 registration per course is required and classes run 12 lessons with some meeting on both Monday and Wednesday nights.

County voter registration in Chaves County districted by party

County clerk D. P. Greiner reports 71 percent of Chaves County registrations are Democratic, 18 percent Republican, and 11 percent declined to state. Of 10,135 total registrations, Democrats 7,149, Republicans 1,847, and those not specifying 1,139. An estimated 1,009 qualified electors remain unregistered under a new system. Precinct 13, Dunken, is the lone area with more Republicans than Democrats.

E Roberts dies from gasoline stove burns near Roswell

Jesse Ernest Roberts aged about forty four died at three this morning from burns received Monday after noon when a gasoline stove exploded at his camp three miles northeast of Roswell. He came from Oklahoma with Willie Mathis to work nearby. Survivors include two sons Fritz and Buddie Roberts in Oklahoma, four sisters and one brother, and his parents at Pauls Valley Oklahoma.

Boy Scout Rally Set for Next Saturday at North Main Fairgrounds

A city-wide Boy Scout rally will be held Saturday evening at all fairgrounds on North Main. Scouts provide their own food and cook their dinner starting at 5 30. Wood will be furnished. Rally activities begin at 6 30. Stig Santheson named to chair future rallies.

Winnie Ruth Judd Escapes From Arizona State Hospital

Winnie Ruth Judd a 34 year old blonde slayer who killed two companions in 1931 escaped last night from the Arizona State Hospital. She enjoyed more than 12 hours of freedom before being missed and likely left by posing as if still in bed. Governor Jones announced the escape triggering a wide manhunt. Her father gave the officers a clue by saying she appeared at his home around midnight.

Westerfield May Face Kidnapping Charge In Lenore Case

Albuquerque school teacher Mrs. Blos som M. Westerfield may be indicted under the Lindbergh law for kidnapping her three year old granddaughter Lenore Ruggles. She is held in Topeka Kansas on kidnapping charges after a custody dispute and custody fight with Lenore’s parents. Westerfield refused extradition to New Mexico and said she raised Lenore and loves her.

The Chamber of Commerce athletics committee arranged a special train to Carlsbad for the Roswell Carlsbad high school football game Friday night November 10. Captain Kramer to Leave Conchas Dam Project

Captain Hans Kramer, U S Army engineer in charge of Conchas Dam construction in northeastern New Mexico and Colorado's Caddoa Dam, said his successor as district engineer would probably be named this week. He is transferred to the Panama Canal Zone and plans to leave New Mexico late next week and sail from New York with his family November 14.
