County Zoning Change Extends Rules to Public Lands
Chaves County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an amendment bringing public lands under the same zoning review as privately owned property. The measure, despite a letter from the New Mexico State Land Office opposing the move, applies to federal state county and city lands. Also approved were 2018 voting center locations excluding a polling site near Dunken in the southwest.

Chaves County Judge Appointed in Clovis Library Shooting Case
Judge James Hudson of the Fifth Judicial District was assigned to the case of 16 year old Nathaniel Jouett who is charged with two counts of first degree murder and four counts of aggravated battery in a Clovis public library shooting that killed two and injured four.
