Program helps woman achieve homeownership
Elizabeth Martinez moved from a crime ridden Albuquerque neighborhood to a three bedroom home through a federal minority homeownership program. HUD administers the plan, overseen locally by Bernalillo County and Neighborhood Housing Services, aiding first time buyers with training and lender advice. Martinez paid a $5,500 down payment and now saves about $300 monthly on her mortgage while her daughter Julia enjoys a safer environment and improved self esteem.
