ENMU Students Dig Up Phase of Ancient Phytosaur Dig Near San Jon
ENMU students gain hands on research experience by excavating bones in two quarries near San Jon. The partial Phytosaur remains, about 40 feet long, date from 200 to 300 million years ago and suggest a swampy, top predator environment. Geology professor Dr. Robert Pierce leads the dig with participation from multiple departments, including seniors Daniel Woody and Allen Trever, who aim for paleontology PhDs.
