Independent District selects five for new Chaves County board

Morgan Nelson led with 304 votes to win a one year term on the Chaves County Independent School District board. Darrell Pirtle 269 votes and Ralph Chesser 241 votes won two-year terms, while LeRoy Lang 265 and Max Callaway 202 will serve four-year slots. Ben Cathey Pharmacist License Revoked

The New Mexico State Pharmacy Board revoked Roswell pharmacist Ben Cathey license after he pled guilty in U S District Court May 7 to dispensing morphine tablets without a prescription. The board sent a revocation statement signed by President William Bert and other members. A formal hearing occurred in Roswell Sept. 10. Cathey has 20 days to seek district court review.

Punishment Fits Crime in Radar Speed Case

Fresno State College student Jerald Hall faced Judge George Hopper over a speeding charge. After testing Hall’s claim that radar could misread two cars close together, the judge found Hall guilty and suspended the sentence. Hall must write a 1000 word essay on radar history and traffic control.

Mass killer tapes dying screams of young victims

Police in Manchester say a sadistic murderer who lured children, drugged them, and killed them recorded their dying screams. They have tapes and photographs, found in Cheshire and a Manchester rail station, and believe up to eight or eleven bodies lie on moorland where Lesley Ann Downey was found.
