Plans Announced For Handling U S Relief Fund In NM

Governor Arthttey Seigman outlined New Mexico plans to administer $90,800 from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for winter relief. The fund will target needy residents, with local agencies supervised by the state bureau of child welfare, and reimbursed upon vouchers. The loan must be repaid by the state at 3 percent.

Cutting's Party Joins Democrats in New Mexico

The Progressive party founded by Bronson M. Cutting followers merged with Democrats in New Mexico pledging support for national state and county tickets. The move followed the party chairman’s withdrawal of the state ticket and includes plans for a radio address by Cutting and continued party activity despite the fusion.

Hust and Kechter Are Acquitted in Albuquerque

Dr. R L Hust of Albuquerque and Harry Kechter of Santa Fe were acquitted by a jury of murder and criminal abortion charges in the death of Mrs. Justine Harrington Elms of Santa Fe last August. Jury deliberated from 7 15 p m to 11 40 p m after closing arguments. Judge Milton Helmick overruled defense motions for an instructed verdict.

Great Democrats Denied Hoover Blame At Heckler Lunch

Chicago, Oct. 2. Chairman Everett Sanders of the Republican National Committee challenged Democratic spokesmen who blamed President Hoover for the depression. At a Hamilton Club luncheon, Sanders argued Democrats, including the nominee, had misstated the causes of the downturn and criticized early steps by the administration. He cited John Raskob's remarks and predicted momentum would lift the economy with auto industry revival beginning in January.

The executive committee of the Chaves County Taxpayers' Association met at 3:30 this afternoon in the Chamber of Commerce. Secretary E. C. Gessert said no specific business was on the agenda, only an exchange of ideas and potential matters for the association to consider. Clarence Hinkle chairs the 15 member committee.

A mass meeting for the women of Chaves county is set for tomorrow at 3 o clock in the county courthouse under the Chaves County Women's Republican Club. Speakers include James M. Mrs Tweedy Dies After Long Illness in Roswell

Mrs. John W. Tweedy died this afternoon at St Marys hospital after a years long illness. She leaves her husband, county board chairman, and their son Mansfield Tweedy. The Tweedys lived five miles south of Roswell for twelve years and were prominent socially and in business. Funeral plans not set. Talmage Mortuary to handle arrangements.

Relief Committee Formed to Administer Federal Funds

The Chaves County relief committee will organize tomorrow at 2:30 PM at the Chamber of Commerce to handle federal winter relief funds. One member from each group including the county board, Salvation Army advisory board, Red Cross, health department, Roswell city council, churches, ex-service clubs, and Dexter Hagerman and Lox Arthur towns. Each organization will appoint its representative. private funds stay with respective groups.

Woman Fined in J P Court over Intoxicating Liquor Charge

Anna Cabber was fined 200 dollars by Judge Winston in a justice of the peace court for possession of intoxicating liquor. She pleaded not guilty and appealed the ruling to the district court.

Parties finalize lists of election officials in Roswell

Both Chaves county parties completed lists of election judges and clerks for election day November 8. The Democratic party filed first and is entitled to two judges and two counting judges per precinct with one clerk and one counting clerk per box. The Republican party gets one judge and one counting judge plus one clerk per box. Each party must submit double the entitled numbers plus alternates, requiring the Democrats to secure 162 names and the Republicans 126 names in Roswell.

Boy Found Dead After Search Near Tularosa

In Tularosa New Mexico on Oct 20 the body of seven year old GraVier Rivera was found eight miles east of town after a lengthy search by 1% men including Mescalero Apache. Rivera, son of Diego Rivera, had wandered from his father’s home in Cosce.
