Big Leaguers Meet Roswell in Polite Exhibition at Thorne Park

The Casey Stengel All-Stars defeated Roswell Giants 10 to 7 in a daytime exhibition at Thorne Park. Hubbell of the Nationals starred for the visitors, while Bob Meusel from the Yankees appeared and sparked the crowd with a deep homer and solid defense. Casey Stengel managed in center field and the second game was set for this afternoon with Meadows starting for the All-Stars and Mitchell for Roswell.

Street car overturn injures nine in Sioux City

Nine persons were seriously injured when a heavily loaded street car rolled down a long incline and turned over on a sharp curve. Brakes failed to hold and the car crossed the curb before overturning in Sioux City on October 20.

Seven Killed in Wreck Near Erie New York Central collision

Seven people are reported dead and five injured when two passenger trains collided near Union Station in Erie Pennsylvania. An eastbound train crashed into an open switch, striking the second Pullman of a westbound train and then the third Pullman. The engine crew were uninjured and all fatalities and injuries occurred in the second car. Three of the injured are not expected to survive. Searchers continue for additional bodies.
