Conviction Stands Against Prominent Carlsbad Woman
The New Mexico Court of Appeals upheld Esme Taylor's conviction after she pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana under a plea deal that allowed a $1000 fine and 90 days in jail. The court found no bias in Judge John Walker's ruling and rejected claims of discrimination due to her social prominence and past public service.

Corona avoids penalty for excess gas use with new supply plan
The village of Corona escapes a $5 per thousand cubic feet penalty after exceeding its natural gas entitlement by about 42 percent from May to October. Under a 60 day agreement with El Paso Natural Gas and the Jicarilla Apache tribe, penalty debt is canceled and Corona will receive gas via a Department of Energy exchange from a new Jicarilla reservation well, with El Paso transporting and the department buying the extra supply.
