A damaged Lead South Dakota notice reports an unsigned letter demanding $20000 from J Grier and warning of demolition of his home. Authorities tracked the plot with arrests of Margar and Matt, while two others were taken into custody as the case unfolded.
A wrecked streetcar careened off a track and down an embankment at Mount Hope, killing one man and injuring several others. Motorman lost control, the car struck a bail rail, and overturned with heavy trucks crashing through. One victim died at the scene while others were taken to hospital. the incident prompted a call to attend a meeting where other business would be discussed.

Washington D C Oct 15 The Controller of the Currency announced the failure of the First National Bank at Dresden Ohio caused by loans to local woolen manufacturers who had failed to meet obligations.

The owner is L. Mehlnop. A meeting of Samaritan Rebekah Lodge No. 14 IOOF is set for Friday at 7:30, with important business on the agenda.
Last night Sler's big company failed to draw an audience for its second production of Down Mo as intended. Attendance was small, and money paid in was returned as the company prepared for transportation to Carlsbad. Roswell had been the year’s best town, but the circus and minstrel attractions proved too strong. The company did well Monday but not as well as in Roswell. They move on to Carlsbad where Allen's Minstrel and the company both perform tonight.
Norris and Rowe's circus drew a large audience to their E. 1 Street tent last night. The crowd enjoyed action and feats, with hot roasted peanuts noted as a popular item among attendees.
Dr J C Nichols journeyed to Elida this morning on a business trip. G W Harris Santa Fe assistant general manager left for Amarillo after contracting Roswell Granite and Construction Co for 2900 yards of crushed rock to ballast the railroad. Expert shoeing at Texas shop.
Santa Fe Oct 15 The United States grand jury reconvened to investigate coal and filings in the district and possible terraory land frauds and diversion of permanent improvement funds. New panel chosen. several officials named to revise territorial laws and appoint a new superintendent of the territorial penitentiary. Governor Curry also called a mass meeting to discuss statehood.
Roosevelt county grand jury in Portales issues 23 indictments and four no bills. Funds shortage delays trials of pending felonies, requiring a special effort to keep up with the term.
The Roswell Hardware Co. sues Timoteo Anasloy Sedillo on an alleged note for 128.90 with costs. R te Lund is attorney for the plaintiff. Lela M. Croft sues Virgil S. Croft for divorce. J T Evans is attorney for the plaintiff.
Artesia residents flood the hills east of the Pecos after word of a gold find. Dozens of locals and others rush to file location notices and stake claims, with livery stables and the county clerk benefiting from the boom. Ore-bearing quartz returns and speculation run high as hundreds of acres are claimed and staked.

A second explosion wounds physicians as shock sweeps southern Indiana. Fires devastate the mining town, with many bodies unrecovered and destruction spreading to nearby areas.

Denver telegraphers vote on a possible strike over a discharge dispute at Grand Junction with results due tomorrow.
San Francisco reports Johnson and Flynn have signed to box for forty five rounds in this city on the afternoon of November. They agree to a purs e of fifty percent to the winner and forty five percent to the loser from half the gross receipts.
In St Louis Missouri during October shoe factories restart after several weeks of idle labor due to a strike by shoe workers. Factories resume full production with no extra effort to run full output as of the date indicated.
