Roswell Baptists Plan 20000 Dollar Church

Roswell Baptists aim to raise twenty thousand dollars for a new church with a fall start possible if subscriptions accelerate. A soliciting committee has already gathered about six thousand dollars and a donor pledges two thousand more per dollar raised by others. The effort reflects strong faith in Roswell’s growth and community support.

Great Day at Tent Revival Delivers Large Crowds

A revival meeting drew 750 for the morning session with a well filled tent, 800 heard the sermon last night, and about thirty conversions were reported yesterday. Many attendees sought salvation during the men’s meeting and prayers were requested by over a hundred men.

Supreme Court Sets Date for Irrigation Suit Hearing

The Supreme Court named October 2, 1906 as the argument date for the Kansas versus Colorado irrigation case. Kansas lawyers have three months to file briefs, Colorado three months, and the United States an additional three months. Also report notes former Congressman Jerry Simpson suffered a lung hemorrhage this afternoon but rallied.

Two Courts Convene in District Openings

Federal and Territorial courts for the district opened at nine this morning with Judge Wm. H. Pope presiding. Attending were C. M. Bird clerk, Major W. H. H. Llewellyn U S. Attorney J. M. Hervey district attorney W. R. Forbes Harry Cooper Fred Fornoff deputies and K. S. Woodruff sheriff. Juror organization occupied the morning with many jurors excused and replacements sought.

Dezendorf Takes Charge of Government Land Investigations

F C Dezendorf of Washington arrived in Roswell to oversee investigations into government land frauds. He replaces Geo F Wilson, who formerly led the legal work from Las Vegas and was removed on bribery charges after claiming the funds aimed to secure evidence. Wilson later went to Oregon to face land fraud accusations.

Fever situation in New Orleans yellow fever end near

New Orleans reports 3 new cases since 6 p m Sunday bringing total to 3 320 and 33 deaths. Officials say work beginning today should end the yellow fever visitation, citing only eight new cases in the past 24 hours as confirmation of the improving outlook.

Owl Train Wreck at Fresno Kills Engineer Fireman and Tramp

An early morning wreck on the northbound Owl Train No 25 at the Fresno yard entrance killed Engineer Cole, Fireman Butts, and an unknown tramp. The crash at 2 30 am was caused by a misplaced switch and suspected criminal tampering, with a rock used to break a lock found near the switch.

Denver officials report the state supreme court denied the application for superseders by F M Johnson, president of the defunct Fidelity Savings Association, after three weeks of review. He will be taken to Canyon City penitentiary tonight to begin a two to three year sentence.

Baron Komura, Japan's foreign minister and chief plenipotentiary, arrived from Vancouver Oct 3. he was met by guarded streets and honored by the Emperor who gave a personal message praising his service.
