Santa Fe reports the Chaves County cotton carnival opened with one of the citys largest crowds for any occasion. Events include a grand parade, old timers parade, a car versus horse race, Thorne Park rodeo, agriculture displays at the Armory, an auto show, band concerts, and gymnastic entertainment by New Mexico Military Institute cadets. The carnival runs daily with exhibits open until 9 PM on festival nights.
