Kansas City October 13 Governor Haskell of Oklahoma gave the Associated Press a signed statement addressed to President Roosevelt in a move related to a libel suit against a yellow journalist. He mentions consulting his attorneys and says a petition is complete and will be filed soon.
Blaine Washington October 13 The Jenk ins Mill plant one of the largest mills in the Northwest burned last night and was nearly destroyed. Officials estimate the loss at $500000. The item mentions tuberculosis debate and a government inspected men phrase lingering from the text.
Parker Drilling Company ended its contract with J. J. Hagerman after reaching 1500 feet at Headquarters ranch near Roswell. A wireless report from Berlin says the St. Louis balloon crew Arnold and Hewitt were lost at sea after their craft vanished in fog in the North Sea during the Gordon Bennett cup contest. The vessel sank and occupants were reportedly rescued by a schooner. Nearby balloons Utopia Koelin and Pignitz were seen landing near Cushaven and Bremhaven respectively.
The Presbyterian church hosted a well attended reception to meet the new pastor Dr Alexander last night. A Happy social evening followed by refreshments. Pastor Vermillion conducts a revival at the new Baptist church corner 5th street and Pennsylvania avenue with daily services at 10 am and 730 pm.
Washington October 13 The Supreme Court docket begins at noon with the Waters-Pierce Oil Company case from Texas as the lead item. The appeal challenges Texas court rulings forcing the company from the state and levying over 1.6 million dollars for alleged anti trust violations.
Col. Wm. F. Tucker of the U S Army was arrested on a Wabash train early today in Decatur on a charge of deserting his wife, daughter of the late Gen. John A. Logan. Reports say he is ill and unavailable for comment.
