Bethel Baptist Church appoints a fulltime youth and music director, reflecting a leadership change within the church. The post signals expanded youth and music programs for the congregation.
Fidel Castro, back at the United Nations after 19 years, denounced the United States and linked Israel to Nazism. He urged a new world order based on justice and peace, defending Palestinian rights as he called for total Israeli withdrawal from occupied lands.
Police from Roswell to Santa Fe attended the service for Bedford, shot near Bonito Lake. Mourners filled Ballard Funeral Home and South Park Cemetery as his wife fainted and officers saluted with a 21 gun salute. Bedford had served with multiple agencies and left two children.
About 200 people from southeastern New Mexico attended the Bill and Helen Langenegger appreciation dinner at the Sally Port Inn. The event praised Langenegger for water rights leadership and long service on regional and national agricultural boards, with Oct 11 proclaimed Bill Langenegger Day.
Buddy Ray Nunn, 52, appointed Chaves County manager to replace Carson Lowman who resigned for personal reasons. Nunn brings 30 years in oil and gas, most recently as Kennedy Engineering operations manager in Roswell, with prior Hobbs roles and one airport board chairmanship in Gray County Texas. He has no government experience and is not politically active.
