Sunrise Optimist Club of Roswell installed officers for 2013 2014 at the Sept 26 banquet in Los Cerritos Zone 4 Lt Gov Judith Tichenor swore in Richard Glenn as President and Roger Bur nett as Vice President. Directors sworn in included Scott Hicks Elouise Ortega Bud Hewett Chris Cook Evelyn Klemo and Cheryl Martinez Outgoing President Karen Hamilton announced awards for Chris Cook Tracy Mumford and Scott Hicks. The club promotes youth service and community betterment through scholarships mentors HOST essays zoo animals girl scout sponsorships and more. Meetings are Wednesdays at 7 am at Los Cerritos.

The Eastern New Mexico University Roswell Foundation has awarded 16600 dollars in scholarships this fall. Notable awards include the William H. McCutchen Memorial Scholarship of 750 dollars to Lindsey Dubiel and the Thomas M. Coates Memorial Aviation Scholarship of 1000 dollars to Ethan Urban. Additional 750 to Katherine Hernandez and 750 to Kimberly England. ENMU Roswell Foundation grants 750 dollars each to Melissa Hernandez and Evelyn Moreno. A CAPS group of 28 students receives 450 dollars each, including Melissa Baeza and Jacob Blacke among others.
