Police Deploy 450 Officers as Boston Integration Struggle Spreads

In South Boston, 450 state and metro officers in riot gear guard buses and schools to enforce court ordered busing. Gov Sargent ordered the presence after a federal judge rejected Marshals aid. Violence has spread from South Boston to Roxbury with arrests and injuries reported.

Mills Involved After Drowning Rescue At Tidal Basin

Rep. Wilbur D. Mills and a group including three women and another man were in a Washington club for hours before a 2 a.m. incident at the Tidal Basin near the Jefferson Memorial. A woman, Anabella Battistella, leaped into the water and was saved by officers. Mills denied involvement despite police reports and witness claims.

United Way near halfway mark in Chaves County drive

The United Way of Chaves County reports 48 percent of its 190000 goal reached with 91721 raised in the first weekly report. In Ypsilanti Michigan a bank manager forced to rob his own bank to ransom his wife and two children were released unharmed after being held by four men overnight. The hostages Erick seven and Annette nine were freed at a hotel about ten miles west of Ypsilanti around 10 20 a m.
