United Fund chairmen across ten divisions were unveiled at a Roswell Inn breakfast by UF chairman Bill Bacon. The drive aims to exceed the $156,000 goal by $10,000, adding a new Medical Division led by Dr. Howard Smith with a $6,009 target. Other divisions include Pattern led by Charles Read at $75,000, Employer under J. C. Powell at $32,500, Advance led by Stanley Mathis at $23,500, and Public Employes at $12,000 with Mary Cahoon directing the Women’s Division at $6,200. Publicity head is Jack Stolz with aide Stuart Pritchard.
Roswell Community College cannot receive district funding after the Walker Air Force Base site moved out of the Roswell district. The attorney general says tax levy money must support facilities within the district, prompting possible new votes if the levy is to cover vocational programs or a larger district. A $390,000 state appropriation may still back Walker operations, including vocational and academic programs.

A Japanese merchant ship rescued at least two of the 42 crewmen who jumped into icy seas when the Panaceanic Faith sank suddenly Monday. Coast Guard reports from Igaharu Maru place 870 miles southwest of Kodiak, naming Gordon L. Campbell of Oakland and Lewis E. Gray Jr. of Houston as rescued. Captain John F. Ogles of Alexandria, Virginia, was also reported saved.
A Roswell woman, requesting anonymity, reported unidentified moving objects seen in the sky on Monday night near Roswell High School. She described a bright Venus like object moving west to east, a second star like object crossing at a 9 degree angle, and a third star like object from the east moving west while the large object traveled east. Several bystanders from the school watched the largest object.
The government begins presenting evidence in the 1964 conspiracy trial of 18 defendants over the killings of civil rights workers in the Philadelphia Mississippi area. Witnesses include jail staff and county officials as prosecutors tie the deaths to the Ku Klux Klan involved in the case.
