Judging Continues At Fair Two Sales Set for Tomorrow

The Eastern New Mexico State Fair enters its third day with a record number of entries in stock shows and exhibits across agriculture art and commercial displays. A rodeo crowd of 1822 attended the third night at the Chaves County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo. Junior Beef Cattle judging began about 8:30 a.m. with open judging starting at 10 a.m.

New Jewish Chaplain Named at Walker AFB

First Lieutenant Myron Berman will serve as the Jewish chaplain at Walker Air Force Base replacing Chaplain J M Reich. His office will be in the base chapel and Jewish services are held at Congregational B n Israel located at and Washington in Roswell. Berman is a first assignment as an air force chaplain and a native of New York.

James P. Mitchell, 52, a New Jersey Republican, is appointed as the new secretary of labor. He will take office today in Washington, replacing Martin P. Durkin who left the post a month ago to return to the AFL Plumbers Union presidency.

Col William K Martin to Lead B 36 Squadron to Thule Greenland

Col William K Martin, Sixth Bomb Wing commander, will lead a squadron of B 36s from the Sixth for a weeklong training exercise at Thule Greenland a major Arctic base on the Northwest coast of Greenland. another B 36 squadron from the 7th Bombardment wing at Carswell will run a similar mission to a SAC base in North Africa for about 11 days. This fits SAC global mobility training and follows recent Far East trials with non stop Pacific flights to American bases.

Ruidoso Aspencade Set for Sunday in Mountain Resort

Special committees of the Ruidoso Chamber and the recently formed Ruidoso Trail Riders plan a large Aspencade weekend event. A noon chuck wagon dinner for at least 400 will end the trail, with horseback riders hayride passengers and autos arriving. Texas clubs from Brownfield Hereford Levelland Pecos Lubbock and El Paso will ride in, using Ruidoso Downs facilities. A 9 am parade and a best club contest start Sunday, followed by an Aspencade tour and interdenominational church services high in the White Mountains.
