Eastern New Mexico State Fair Ends Strong Despite Rain
The 17th annual Eastern New Mexico State Fair drew praise for its exhibits parades and rodeo though Saturday night rain cut the final crowd to about eight or nine thousand. President H A Poorbaugh noted attendance was higher earlier in the event than 1937 and thanked local businessmen exhibitors and volunteers for a successful fair.

Cotton crop forecast at 11,928,000 bales this year
The Agriculture Department estimates 11,928,000 bales of 500 pounds gross weight for the current cotton crop, based on Oct 1 conditions.
