Senator Calder of New York introduces a bill with Baruch backing to keep daylight saving year round as a coal conservation measure. The current law requires turning clocks back one hour on October 27. Board investigations of 20 large cities show substantial coal savings, with about 100000 tons saved in those cities this winter.
General Pershing announced 1500 German prisoners were taken in the Argonne Forest yesterday, with over 3000 prisoners total on both banks of the Meuse. Franco American forces also occupied Consenvoy Brabant Haumont Beaumont as they press the Verdun front and push Germans east of the Meuse. The front reports nearly four miles of American advance east of the Meuse and continued heavy fighting in the center after overnight artillery actions.
