In Madrid three passers by die in a gunbattle after terrorists strike a Barcelona police headquarters. Two police officers are killed and two others seriously wounded. Three firemen are injured as a wave of violence over seven days leaves eight officers and four civilians dead.
Authorities linked a police killing to low visibility and vehicle interference. The article notes ongoing Franco era reprisals across Catalonia and Madrid, FRAP activity in Barcelona, Basque separatist killings, and multiple police fatalities totaling seventeen before today.
