State lawmakers pass budget fix without tax hike
After an all night House session lawmakers sent a package of agency cuts and budget measures to the governor, omitting three crime bills tied to reinstating the death penalty. Senate Republicans say the budget fix balances last year’s shortfall without new taxes and aims to bolster reserves. The plan trims agency spending by 172 million and shifts tobacco funds into the general fund to close the deficit amid oil market downturns.
