White House says no bombing in eastern Vietnam zone
The White House confirms no American bombing in the eastern sector of the Vietnam demilitarized zone. Press secretary Moyers frames the pause as to allow ICC investigation into alleged Geneva Treaty violations, not a suspension, and notes uncertainty over the ICC’s actual activity or linkage to mutual de escalation urged at the UN.

Pause in bombing aims to restore demilitarized zone in Viet Nam
Secretary of State Dean Rusk announced a halt in bombing in part of the Viet Nam demilitarized zone to restore its neutral status. The pause, affecting the eastern buffer zone, is linked to an ICC inquiry and possible disengagement talks with North Viet Nam. Canadian officials noted limited patrol resumption under the pause and weighed Canada’s role with the International Control Commission. The Times reported Maurice Couve de Murville told President Johnson that North Viet Nam no longer believes it can win in the South.
