Old Timers Parade Leads Roswell Fair Day Fun

Roswell's Eastern New Mexico State Fair opened with a robust old timers parade. Over a thousand participants rode antique wagons and riders from Seven Rivers to Bosque Grande. Carr Named Treasurer for New Mexico Republican State Committee

Cardinals win World Series game four 4-1 at Sportsman's Park

Paul Dean starred for St Louis as the Cardinals defeated Detroit 4 to 1 in World Series action. Dean overcame early trouble, striking out six, and Pepper Martin sparked a late-game rally with a triple and score. Detroit's Greenberg tripled in the ninth but the Tiger offense skewered by Dean and the Cardinal defense could not overcome the early leads.

Old Timers Barbecue Feeds 1800 at City Park

Eighteen hundred people were served at the Old Timers barbecue at North Spring river city park at noon after the parade. Cattle Growers Urge Buying More Cattle in New Mexico

The New Mexico Cattle Growers Association urged Congress to back faster cattle purchases under drought relief. A committee is in Washington pushing to raise slaughtered cattle numbers and cut freight rates on cottonseed cake. Blevins Arrested On Charge After Bail Granted

Don Blevins was arrested today on a charge of keeping a call apart from its mother and driving it from its accustomed range. He waived a preliminary hearing and was released on bond of 1000 dollars.

Accident at Third and Main injures driver and damages cars

C P Coppedge and A H Turney collided at Third and Main at 9 20 this morning. Turney sustained bruising but no serious injury and was taken to a physician for examination and treatment. Coppedge uninjured. Both cars, a Plymouth and a Chrysler coupe, were badly damaged with wheels and tires down and vehicles knocked over the curb.

Fair Program for Saturday at Eastern New Mexico Fair

The schedule lists events on Saturday October 6 including Zeiger United Shows at the fair grounds opening at 10 30 A M with livestock and exhibits also opening. A 1 20 P M rodeo at Thorne Park features bronc riding bull dogging and calf roping followed by a 3 P M football game New Mexico Military Institute versus Wayland College at Institute field and a stage show in the General Exhibits Building. The fair mid way opens at 6 P M with a cowboy dance at 9 P M and a coronation pageant at the General Exhibits Building ending with a grand finale near midnight.

Prominent Democrats Visit Roswell For State Fair

Clyde Tingley Dennis Chavez and Byron Beall visited the Eastern New Mexico State Fair in Roswell today. They said the trip had no political significance and planned to travel to Ft Sumner for a 430 pm Democratic meeting. They may not return to Roswell until October 10 for another Democratic gathering. Senator Hatch was unable to attend.

Democrats launched their statewide drive led by Congressman Dennis Chavez with tours planned for Fort Sumner and Grant and Gal­sup. Senator Hatch and J. J. Dene join Monday.
