A four day Eastern New Mexico State Fair parade opened with a grand procession led by Governor John E. Miles and Mrs. Miles and former Governor James F. Hinkle and Mrs. Hinkle. Floats from the Woman's Club and the Girl Scouts won top honors in their categories. The Girl Scout float featured a large world globe with flags, while other awards went to Rotary Club, Ad Club, Coca Cola, Purdy Furniture, Lovington band, Eunice band, Pioneer Ladies costumes, and multiple individual winners including Hannah Pruit and Jesusita Espin osa. The Pioneer Mother statue float was built by the Yoman's Club victors, and Roswell Woman's Club president Mrs. Russell Bird appeared with her nephew Carl Bird Jr showing the statue's boy figure.
