Las Cruces businessman J. Joe Martinez was named interim Dona Ana County clerk replacing Ruben Ceballos who was suspended. A trial on removal is likely before the November 5 election. if Ceballos is removed, a replacement will be named by the County Commission. Ceballos and deputy Aurelio Enriquez were indicted on 14 counts over the June 4 primary. both plead not guilty. Enriquez remains on paid leave.

Texas man avoids jail after no contest for indecent exposure
Ronald Camp 60 of Sulphur Springs pleaded no contest to aggravated indecent exposure involving a 10 year old in Carlsbad. Judge Jay Forbes suspended 18 months in prison and placed him on supervised probation with ongoing sex offender treatment and progress reports to the district attorney. The incidents spanned July 1999 at Carlsbad Caverns and other Texas and Arizona locations.
