Democrats to Meet Roswell on October 10

Domestic Arts Awards At Eastern New Mexico Fair

Domestic arts winners announced this morning at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair. First place went to Ev elyn Nelson in multiple classes including Embroidery White Luncheon Set and Vanity Set. The St Louis Cardinals routed the Detroit Tigers 8 to 3 in game one of the World Series. Dizzy Dean and Joe Medwick led hits with Medwick collecting four straight hits and a home run as the Cardinals erased a rough start by Detroit’s infield.

Forget-Me-Not Sale by Roswell D A V Saturday

The Disabled American Veterans Forget-Me-Not sale will be held in Roswell next Saturday October 6 under the Sunshine State chapter No 4 and staffed by the local Women’s Auxiliary. Proceeds fund the rehabilitation service which assists many disabled veterans with the dime and quarter donations. A group of Roswell young women will volunteer for the sale starting early Saturday morning.

New Mexico Crop Improvement Association Meets

The seventh annual meeting of the New Mexico Crop Improvement Association was held at the Chamber of Commerce with 55 members from 14 counties. Speakers included Claude Simpson and J. R. Ogden. H. C. Stewart discussed vegetable seed outlook. A board meeting outlined administrative policies. the association’s Exhibit Hall booth received high praise with 19 counties represented and products from Rio Arriba included.

World Series scoreboard crowds fill Navin Field in Detroit

A large crowd watched the first World Series game on a big scoreboard at Navin Field in Detroit. The session featured The Record and Leland's with Price Dukeminier announcing via loudspeaker, Ed Richmond and others operating the board. The event was free and nearly flawless, with tomorrow’s game set for 11:30 Roswell time in Detroit before moving to St. Louis on Friday at 12:30 Roswell time.

A great crowd filled Roswell for the fair opening with crowded streets fair grounds and rodeo. Many out of town visitors appeared among the tatters and exhibitors, marking a bustling start to the event.

Deep gash injures man in cutting scrape near Roswell

Nick Domiges suffered a very deep gash in the right side of his chest in a cutting scrape at Oasis farm east of Roswell where he is employed. His condition was not thought serious. Officers arrested Manuel and Delfin Zampa and Manuel Guadalupe and Pauline Agalia, all of whom are in jail for investigation. Domigos was rushed to St. Mary's hospital last night in a Ballard ambulance.

Portales Day at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair

Portales Day is highlighted at the fair with a large Portales and Roosevelt County delegation. The Portales Band will perform, adding to the festive atmosphere and welcoming visitors from the community.

Death of H C Pinson at Dexter Survived by Family

H C Pinson died suddenly from a heart attack at 8 30 am at his home one mile south of Dexter. He was 51, born September 11 1883 in Waleskah Georgia. He married Dorcia Taylor November 12 1908 at Shaster Lake Texas and she survives. Survived by five sons a brother and two sisters. Funeral planned at Hagerman with arrangements by Cassie Mason undertaker.

Roswell Fair Opens With Rodeo and Stage Shows

Roswell Day schedule lists a 10:00 AM opening of live stock and exhibits at Zeiger United Shows, a 1:30 PM rodeo at Thorne Park featuring bronc riding and calf roping, a 3:00 PM stage show, a 6:00 PM midway opening, a 7:00 PM stage show, and a 9:00 PM cowboy dance at the D A V Hut on the fairgrounds with an admission of fifty cents for the entire show.
