CDL training expands with state contract in Artesia
Santa Fe Taxation and Revenue officials signed a contract with ENMU Roswell at the Artesia Training Center to allow faculty to administer CDL exams locally. ENMUR interim provost Judy Armstrong cited statewide access. Ellington highlighted five colleges already involved and job, education, and NAFTA trade benefits.

Police report a black male about six feet tall and 150 pounds left three threatening letters at an H and R Block office on Main Street. The first letter was shredded, the second lost, the third given to police. it referenced a District Court of New Mexico document and the US president.

Red Cross Rally in Rio Hondo Raises Funds for Disaster Relief
The Rio Hondo Red Cross rally titled Rally Round the Flag featured Clara Barton and a one woman show by Sarah Grant Reid. It raised 680 from tickets and 1280 from prints of America the Beautiful, with 500 from a California donor. Prints remain for 85 minimum at the Red Cross office. Drawings yielded 250 won by Lt. Col. Royce Maples who donated the prize. The Roswell area and New Mexico supporters contributed about 16,000 to the Disaster Relief Fund, with names of officials and veterans highlighted. Linford noted three Rio Hondo volunteers will deploy to New York for disaster relief, along with two others.

The
Dive boat sinks in Gulf of California amid tropical storm
Sixteen people on Poseidon's Mistress abandoned the sinking dive boat 40 km north of San Carlos as Tropical Storm Juliette lashed the Gulf of California. After drifting about 21 hours for roughly 60 miles, 12 reached Punta Hueso de Ballena and four were found later by a navy helicopter. Survivors were to be flown to Guaymas for hospital care. all are reported safe.
