Institute of American Indian Arts to grant first bachelor’s degree
Wennix Red Elk of Umatilla Reservation Oregon will graduate this spring with a bachelor’s degree in museum studies from IASA scheduled after its fast track to four-year accreditation. The school begun in 1962 and now offers four-year programs in creative writing and museum studies along with two-year associates. Administrators say the bachelor’s program reduces transfer needs and strengthens graduate prospects. Red Elk plans to work at the Tamalstslikt Cultural Institute in Pendleton after graduation.

An Albuquerque Journal based Census analysis shows New Mexico has the nation's highest uninsured rate at 23.8 percent against 14 percent nationally as costs rise. Employers shift costs onto workers, many full time and low wage, with only about a third of uninsured qualifying for Medicaid and younger residents delaying or declining coverage.
