Fair Livestock Sales Top $22 663 At Eastern New Mexico State Fair

The Junior Livestock Sale raised about $22 663.69 during the Eastern New Mexico State Fair with 115 4 H and FFA youths selling beef calves sheep swine poultry and rabbits. Grand Champion Angus calf sold for 1 550 40 to Gardners Junior Fat Calf Show. Winners included Phyllis Bennett Larry Hobson and Ray Garner with trophies donated by local firms. Doris Jones from Rogers shared top lamb money, and the Hereford pen award went to Roosevelt County. The event closed after a final rodeo.

West Coast Ships Tied Up by Strike

SAN FRANCISCO AP Deck officers picketed West Coast ships in a maritime strike that could last long. Masters Mates and Pilots claim no contract no work and readiness for a lengthy stoppage. The strike affects 17 PMA ships across San Francisco Portland Seattle and Los Angeles with 135 ships potentially tied up while tankers and foreign flagships keep operating. An emergency meeting was held but deadlock continued.

Rams Bring Top Bids At Eastern New Mexico Ram Sale

Buyers paid 5213 for 38 ram lots at the Southeastern New Mexico Ram Growers Association sale during the Eastern New Mexico State Fair. Average 32 per ram. 16 buyers. Pen of five rams sold for 327.50 and 312.50. Ivan Watson consignments sold to Sam Higi for 60 each total 300. Other consignments include Rambouillet, Debouillet, and Improved Fine Wool lambs with prices ranging from 60 to 162.50. N. M. road tolls and sale results summarized.

Contamination Found Less Than Expected in Walker Area

County Sanitarian Paul Crane announced that water samples taken between South Park Cemetery and Walker Air Force Base show less contamination than expected. Thirty nine samples were collected with six extra sanitarians assisting. only three tested positive, and further verification will guide action with homeowners.

Junior Livestock Sale Nets Over 22000 For 4-H and FFA Youth

Mack Thomas paid 333 for a champion Fine Wool lamb at the Junior Livestock Sale, directing proceeds to 115 4-H and FFA members. Doris Jones of Rogers received the 333 in Roosevelt county Record photos. Pig buyer Bob Drobel bid 2.30 per pound for a Grand Champion 4-H pig owned by Ray Gardner, totaling 517.50 for a 225 pound animal.

Calf Sale Sets Record Bid at East Grand Plains Auction

Jerry Smith of Smith Machinery Co. raised the bid to $1.05 for a Reserve Grand Champion call at Saturday's sale, pushing the total to $943.95. Other bidders added 30 cents a pound, making Danny Crider of East Grand Plains the owner of a check for $1,213.65.

Berlin talks end with no agreement on formal talks

Fairgrounds open at 11 a.m. on Sunday with rodeo shows at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. If afternoon performance rain interrupts, the 7:30 p.m. rodeo may proceed. Exhibits close at 7:30 p.m. and the fair ends at midnight.

Final Day Ahead at Eastern New Mexico Fair Rodeo

The Eastern New Mexico State Fair enters its final day with the main event a 2 30 rodeo at the fairgrounds arena pending weather. Results trickle in from Saturday night with sweepstakes winners in women’s divisions later announced after judging errors. Cowboys led with bareback and saddle bronc riding wins, calf roping, steer wrestling, and bull riding posted from the previous night, including Dave Hopper and Ken Ballard among top scorers.
