Carter to send high level envoy to Cairo peace talks
President Carter announced that Assistant Secretary of State Alfred L. Atherton will head the U S delegation to a mid December Cairo peace conference invited by Anwar Sadat. The talks are slated for about December 13 with direct Egypt Israel negotiations emphasized and U S mediation limited to encouragement.
