In district court the murder trial of William T. Arnold advances quickly as the prosecution rests its evidence this morning and the defense proceeds with testimonies. The defense presents about a score of witnesses, many of them character witnesses, who speak briefly.
Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Nov 30 Three crew members of the tug General were drowned when the vessel collided with the Canadian Pacific steamer Athabasca off Lime Island, sinking the tug early today.
London reports Jem Mace once heavyweight champion dies at Harrow-on-Tyne at age 79 after a long career marked by a 1860 championship succession and a 43 round 1862 title win over Tom King. He was known as a prize ring hero and later relied on friends.
The Chaves County Democratic Central Committee met at the Commercial Club to discuss sending delegates to a territorial convention on the new constitution. They plan a mass meeting in Roswell on December 7 to decide on delegates, leaving the final decision to the mass gathering. The Armory was considered as a meeting site.
J O Lea formerly of the city writes from Chihuahua Mexico about a recent clash where 500 government troops faced revolutionists. Four revolutionists were killed and three captured with others escaping. Coruna Spain Nov 30 A wild gale caused heavy damage to shipping along the coast today. Several coast ing vessels capsized and sixteen persons were drowned.
J A Miller of Albuquerque was in the city today attending to business affairs.
Dr Frederick A Cook says in Hampton's Magazine he cannot prove he reached the Pole. He left hiding to return to the United States with his family on December 22. He describes the Pole region as insane and says he may have been mistaken after two years of hunger and privation. Commander Peary declined to comment on the admission.
Reid Kimbrough aged 24 dies at his home in Roswell after seeking tuberculosis care. He came here two months ago and was living with his mother on North Hill. The body rests at Henninger Company parlors and will likely be shipped tomorrow to Princeton Indiana.
W M Atkinson chairman announces regular precinct elections to be held January 9 1911 for election of justice of the peace and constable in each precinct. Statehood bill does not conflict with the elections.

Washington November 3 The final report of the senate investigations into Lorimer of Illinois alleges corruption in his election and will be completed by the end of February according to Senator Burrows chairman of the committee on privileges and elections.
The California supreme court reversed a trial court judgment against Louis Glass former vice president and general manager of the Pacific States Telephone and Telegraph Company convicted of bribing a Schmitz board of supervisors member. A new trial was ordered as Joe Caperton of San Francisco is in the city.

James J Gallagher was arraigned in Jersey City on charges of atrocious assault with intent to kill Street Commissioner Ed wards and carrying concealed weapons. He pleaded not guilty with reservations. Prosecutor Garvan plans to keep in reserve the murder intent count if Mayor Gaynor dies within a year and a day.
Washington reports an Interstate Commerce Commission hearing on voluntary cuts for Pullman sleeping car rates. A reduction may cut upper berth prices by about 25 percent, though tips for Pullman porters may not drop. Pullman says the loss could run into millions yearly, potentially offset by greater patronage. Some railroads have already varied prices by berth level.

City Engineer W A Wilson yesterday condemned the Southern M E church due to cracked walls and a disintegrating gyro rock coping. The sidewalk in front will be barricaded until removal or tearing down. A temporary meeting place for the congregation is to be announced in tomorrow's Record.
Washington November 30 President Taft received word that the running expenses estimates for the next fiscal year would be reduced by fourteen million dollars following his cabinet conference ultimatum to department heads. The reduction reflects tightened spending across government agencies.
