Orchard men will gather at the Chamber of Commerce Thursday at 7 30 PM to discuss smudging and protection for next spring. All fruit growers are invited to learn about the practice, costs, and equipment, whether they have smudged before or not.
Nov 29 reports from Boston indicate steel storms sweeping New England for three days have killed three people and caused about 2.0 million dollars in property damage. A separate sanitary complaint targets a cafe alleging insufficient cream. No disposition yet in that case.

Arthur Balfour hints at a cautious stance toward binding commitments.
Washington November 29 Railroad profits could be cut after March 1 1922 the interstate commerce commission indicated in a statement today Such action would make sweeping reductions in railroad rates The commission directed thirteen questions to the railroads to be answered in hearings between December 14 and 18 to determine whether a general rate reduction can be made next year
Austin November 23 The state board of control accepted the resignation of C E B King as superintendent of the state juvenile training school with effect in sixty days. The board announced a successor will be named later and rejected Kings request to withdraw. The decision was unanimous and the board said a statement would be issued later. The board has about twenty applicants for the job.
A United States railway issue notes several improper shipments received last week by the Santa Fe Railroad Co. Items include two packages with old marks left, another with partially marked old marks, a cane containing friction top jars not marked, a box marked This idea up, an old marks not polars item, and a double marked box.
London reports indicate Dr Welter Rathenell former minister of reconstruction is in talks with Sir Robert Horne to discuss a possible re arrangement of reparations payments. Sources say Germany seeks the English view on moratorium deals and England may skip asking France for its view.
The average working day in Soviet Russia runs about ten hours, two more than in the United States, with eight hours by law. Communist party members are required to work the extra two hours due to national economic emergency, and many nonmembers also stay late.
