A well organized Whitney Museum show presents Martin Johnson Heade (1819 1904) in his first solo display. The Maryland art department organized it with major help from Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and the Whitney, featuring 69 items chosen by Theodore Stebbins Jr. The exhibit traces Heade’s three career periods from 1840s genre to 1859 1883 landscapes seascapes and still lifes and later trompe l oeil works.
