Thanksgiving Services Set For Community

The Rev. Dr. L. D. Ball of First Baptist will deliver a sermon at 9 a.m. tomorrow at First Presbyterian for the annual Community Thanksgiving service sponsored by the Roswell Ministerial Alliance. Rev. Wayne Gash will preside with Theodore Schettler and Ralph Harris directing music. The Presbyterian choir will sing Now Thank We All Our God and lead congregational singing. Other ministers include Pra ther Johnson Hanes Tegler Berger. A nursery will be available for preschool children.

New Mexico Military Institute Homecoming Big Event in Roswell

NMMI prepares for a large homecoming with cadet and alumni events in Roswell during Thanksgiving. Activities include a bonfire pep rally, cadet inspections, campus tours, a noon luncheon, and a football game against Cisco Junior College, followed by a two-sittings Thanksgiving dinner and a homecoming dance. The program features the Queen Elva Kunkel, a parade review by E. W. Mitchell, and performances by the NMMI band.

Roswell Civic Clubs Hear Thanksgiving Day Message

Over 300 Roswell civic clubs members heard Col. J. R. Kelly of NMMI speak on gratitude and heritage at the Civic Clubs Thanksgiving Get-Together at the Woman’s Club. He saluted forefathers from Columbus to Valley Forge and prayed Americas flag of freedom endure. Ernest Harp Jr. presided. Col. E. L. Lusk and Joe Key introduced speakers and attending presidents from local clubs.

Child Burned in Chili Kettle Near Artesia

Two year old Janie Hefner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hefner, fell into a boiling kettle of chili at a fundraiser held at the Bob Garner farm south of Artesia. She suffered second degree burns and was taken to Artesia General Hospital. doctors described the injuries as severe but not critical.
