Ten hot air balloons formed a colorful backdrop for the Wool Bowl Parade on Saturday. The balloons drifted south southeast and hovered over Roswell for a time, seemingly caught in circular air currents, while the sky remained a crystal clear blue.
Navarro Junior College Bulldogs defeat Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds 17 0 at the Wool Bowl to claim a top national ranking. Miss Wool of New Mexico Janey Gilliland 20 of Albuquerque crowned by Mayor Brainerd as 4 000 plus fans watched halftime bands and drills.
Albuquerque resident Janey Gilliland aged 20 won the Miss Wool of New Mexico title Friday night. She is pictured with wool queen princesses on the New Mexico Wool Growers Assn. float in the Wool Bowl Parade, with a hot air balloon backdrop. See page 15.
Guest governor Bob Hazlewood of Roswell and Kansas Gov. Robert Docking sit in the stands during a timeout at the 1973 Wool Bowl. Docking supported Fort Scott Community College while Navarro Junior College beat them 17 to 0 in Corsicana Texas.
Tallahassee police Sgt. Billy Hudson 36 works a downtown beat by day and hosts gospel music programs at night. He was named America's most popular gospel disc jockey this year after receiving 1500 voting cards in a contest sponsored by a record publisher. He credits the Lord and kindness from listeners for his dual role and says the work wears on him but the positive comments keep him going.
