Halftime fireworks at the 1972 Wool Bowl presented by Longhorn Manufacturing Co. thrilled fans as Blinn College Buccaneers defeated Mesabi Norsemen 38 to 21. The display featured the American Flag and the Wool Bowl insignia.
Snow blanketed southeastern New Mexico, catching deer hunters by surprise and prompting searches in nearby mountains. No one was missing for long as crews worked to clear roads on U S Highway 285 and other routes, with 10 to 12 inches reported in some zones.
Kissinger and Le Duc Tho met for about an hour near Paris after word the talks were called off. A CBS crew followed to Choisy le Roi while Washington confirmed a Saturday Paris session. Skies clouded routes with snow and icy roads across New Mexico and Texas inland.
Early today the Berrendo river bed northeast of town held snow as moisture rather than water. Snow clung to bushes fence posts and ground while dawn brought a chilly damp day. An inset note Roswell cactus wore a two and a half to three inch snow cover after overnight snowfall. Skies spit light snow last evening.
AFL CIO President George Meany was admitted to Phelps Memorial Hospital in Tarrytown with slight chest pains. A hospital spokesman said he spent a comfortable night and remains stable. Meany’s condition was reported as stable today.
Blinn defeats Mesabi State 38 21 in the Wool Bowl classic as snow falls at Wool Bowl field. 3 000 to 3 500 fans attend while Longhorn fireworks light the halftime show and Miss Wool of New Mexico is introduced.
RETC officials in Roswell explore opening a lineman training program at the closed College of Artesia in Artesia. Chuck Fleming says the project is in preliminary stages and fund seeking is underway, with Arizona participants mentioned. The plan would use Artesia facilities and may spawn similar ventures.
