Jet Explosion Fatal for 43 on Takeoff Runway

A TWA jet faltered during takeoff, swerved off the runway, and exploded after striking a road grader. Forty-three of the 72 aboard were killed and eight of the 29 survivors were in critical condition. The aircraft carried 17 crew and passengers, with seven crew among the survivors.

Ford Begins Production Tuesday in Detroit After Strikes End

Ford Motor Co plans to resume output Tuesday after settling local strikes. About 80,000 workers return, with passenger car assembly tentatively restarting in Dallas Louisville and Wixom Michigan as Ford aims to ramp 1965 model production across 17 plants within a week.

Atlantic Acquires 43 Area Oil Wells in New Mexico Fields

The Atlantic Refining Company announced the purchase of 43 wells in three southeast New Mexico fields Empire Aleo Red Lake and Shugart in Eddie County. The wells currently produce about 500 barrels daily and were bought from William Hudson Bob Johnson and Paton Brothers of Artesia for over $1 million in cash and production payments.

Search For Body Continues Near Ruidoso Amid Conflicting Confessions

Lincoln County undersheriff Clyde Atwood says John M. Peters 27 is credible yet inconsistent about killing a man near Ruidoso. A five hour search north of Ruidoso failed to find a body as authorities plan another sweep within Gavilland Canyon aided by dogs if needed. Peters claimed four women and a man were killed in Illinois Texas and New Mexico while in custody for burglary in Big Spring Texas.
