Special train from California eyed for Interclub Rotary meeting

A telegram from International Rotary President Clint Anderson indicates a special car or train may travel from California to the Interclub Rotary meeting at Carlsbad Cavern on Monday December Std. Ross Malone coordinates with James Batten and local Rotarians on arrangements and entertainment while optimism remains for a large turnout from Massachusetts Kansas Illinois Texas Colorado Arizona Nevada Mexico Roswell and western Texas expect about fifty attendees with many more from New Mexico clubs.

Four Men Escape Curry County Jail During Breakout

Clovis New Mexico November 23 AP four men escaped from the Curry county jail in eight years the first jail delivery in the county. Escapees were Jake McBroom Leonard Williams George Raby and Luther Walker they used a wall breach and sawed bars. Officers suspect confederates met them near the jail and drove away in a car two other prisoners did not flee.

Roberts Heads to Albuquerque for Roswell Postmaster Bid

J. G. Roberts departed this afternoon for Albuquerque expecting a three day trip. He is a candidate for appointment as Roswell postmaster, awaiting confirmation from authorities.

Red Cross Roll Call Over Quota in Chaves County

Chaves county surpassed its Red Cross roll call quota with a total of 805.67 against a 759 target. Lake Arthur raised 15, Hagerman 53, Dexter 25, while East Grand Plains Lb F D and Berrendo plus Roswell districts contributed solidly. W C Lawrence and Myron Preece praised local workers and residents for their sacrifice and support, setting up a hopeful note for tomorrow.

City Grading Two More Streets by City Crew

City Manager Clyde Fulton directs a crew grading and graveling two blocks on eighth and Ninth streets between Main and Virginia. These streets had never been graveled, while alleys have seen substantial graveling in recent weeks. The overall non paved streets and alleys remain generally in fine condition.
