All England hailed Princess Mary and her commoner fiancé Viscount Lascelles son of Earl Harewood. The engagement was announced by the King and Queen. The Viscount’s title is a courtesy from the King. The public and newspapers welcomed the union.
Paris reports a near twenty percent rise in divorces in the first postwar year, totaling more than 19,000 and about seven percent of marriages. Madame Helene Miropolsky notes economic upheaval drives the trend, with four year separations often ending in tighter bonds or divorce. Husbands seek divorce twice as often as wives, reversing prewar patterns.

Baltimore parole reports two mail bandits were shot and killed by United States marines on a Baltimore and Ohio train bound from Washington to Pittsburgh. Local officials said details were incomplete with one bandit captured and another escaping. The marines, ordered to shoot first, acted after spotting the pair riding the bumpers as the train left Washington.

The remains of Mrs. Boyd Stinson were shipped last night by Roswell Undertaking Co to the old home at Sapulpa Oklahoma where burial will take place. The body was accompanied by the mother and other family members who traveled by automobile.
Leopold Garcia, convicted in Williamson County of violating liquor laws, began serving a penitentiary sentence while an error in the offense date charged in the indictment was reviewed. The Court of Criminal Appeals refused to dismiss the indictment, releasing him on habeas corpus, ruling the date mistake did not alter the facts.
