Anaya cancels CCGR talk over misinterpretation

Attorney General Toney Anaya canceled his speaking engagement with the Concerned Citizens Group of Roswell. He cited risk that his visit would be misinterpreted as support for the group’s stance on Roswell rate increases. The meeting was set for Pueblo Auditorium, 300 N. Kentucky Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m.

Carter signals oil price concessions to push energy plan

Energy Secretary James R. Schlesinger says the Carter administration may back higher crude prices to win industry support for the energy bill. He notes a higher price ceiling could spur exploration while tax revenues would be rebated to the public to blunt economic impact. The plan would also aim to extend natural gas price regulation nationwide with a potentially higher ceiling than $1.75.

State high court sets date to hear road chief

The New Mexico Supreme Court will hear Wednesday a petition by Highway Engineer James Bird to halt his transfer by Governor Jerry Apodaca to the Park and Recreation Department. Bird's Santa Fe attorney Charles Olmsted filed the request for a temporary restraining order. The attorney general had told highway department lawyers they could not represent Bird.

BEF to Recommend Funds Increase for NMMI Budget
