Fire destroys Lyric theatre at Fifth and Main corner
Dr G T Veal’s skating rink turned summer theatre the Lyric at Fifth and Main narrowly survived a Sunday night blaze. The fire, suspected arson, destroyed the west end and damaged the center and front. no insurance covered the $3 000 structure built four years ago with costly maple flooring. Firefighters reached the scene in three minutes and halted further damage as demolition of debris begins.
