Cherry Ills Nov 20 Forty men found alive in the St Paul mine were rushed to the hoisting shaft for aid. One rescuer suggested about 150 might be alive in the shaft as more bodies are recovered. Seventy-one ultimately saved.
Samuel Gompers was unanimously reelected president of the American Federation of Labor at the Toronto convention. The meeting directed a December 13 gathering of affiliated organizations in Pittsburg to outline actions against the United States Steel Corporation open shop policy, deemed the federation's strongest labor foe.
The United States circuit court ruled the Standard Oil Company illegal and dissolved. The decision enjoins Rockefeller figures and multiple associated corporations from maintaining a restraint of trade. The ruling upholds congress power to regulate combinations and marks a landmark in industrial law.
Washington confirms the execution of Grosce and Cannon by Nicaraguan government troops. A Stillwater report states they were tried by court martial after being caught with a dynamite device intended to blow up a government transport carrying five hundred men.
